What’s in a name?
It’s a new dawn; It’s a new day; It’s a new life for…all of us!
These words, made famous by Nina Simone’s ‘Feeling Good’, could not be more apt for what lies ahead for us, as a business and as a society. I’ll leave the philosophical discussions on the future of society for another time, but for us as a business, it all begins with a new name!
In the three years since Koin Rewards was conceptualised, a lot has happened, but not a great deal has changed when it comes to consumers searching for ways to be supported with their desires to have a more positive impact on the world.
Last year, in the early days of Lockdown 1.0, we started to reflect upon what this meant for our vision, mission and purpose. We realised that an opportunity was presenting itself for Koin to be more than just a loyalty rewards platform; we realised that at the same time as humanity was being asked to step up and live life differently, Koin could play a central role in people’s day-to-day lives, ultimately helping humanity to be epic; and that is what we decided we should be called — EPIC!
EPIC, which stands for ‘Ethical Personal Impact Companion’, is the lifestyle assistant that helps consumers find and buy from merchants with whom they share the same values, aligned with the UN Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs), thus encouraging both longer-term loyalty and positive impact on all life on Earth.
Koin, which remains central to our vision, is the ‘digital currency for positive impact’ that EPIC Members can earn (through rewards), spend and donate exclusively within the EPIC ecosystem to increase their contribution to the delivery of the UN SDGs.
Did you know?
Koin comes from the Greek word Koinonia, which means ‘a gift jointly contributed’. We believe that this nicely symbolises the joint contribution of merchants and consumers to a more ethical, responsible and sustainable way of life for the benefit of humanity, nature and the environment.
With this new name, comes a new logo and a new brand; one that makes an impact on sight; one that communicates a calm, honest, warming feel-good energy to inspire confident, positive change; one which signifies the sun rising at dawn, on a new day, showing the path to a new way of life that respects that all life is connected, no matter what side of the planet it’s on.
